Since the file is open/write and is not shared, then this mechanismI should work to acheive the intended results. If this I were a larger drive, I probably wouldn't worry about it but an RZ28 is a mA small drive (2 Gb, right?) and for an index file, that does seem e disproportionate.   E For example,  my system disk is only a 3G partition and the index on /G that drive is only 32,000 blocks where as one of my user systems is an v: 8G partition with an index file that is at 320,000 blocks.  G Can you do anything about this?  Probably not unless you eliminate the -B files, backup the volume,reinit and reload the drive, though I do G believe there are VMS products that can defrag and truncate indexf.sys b	 files...    I My suggestion, get another, larger drive.
