I've stopped doing any serious work on this version. The patch version number stayed at 3.1.16. The best way you can get this port of Emacs is to look in my FTP server: ftp.vms.stacken.kth.se:[.GNU-VMS]. The package is in EMACS-18_59-3_1_16.TAR-GZ. (for the time being, you might find that file in my old FTP server as well, but any update will not be placed there). Emacs 19.22. I've been doing quite some work on this one, and had a lot of help from a bunch of testers. Below, you can see how to get the current patches. NEW! You can now get the full patched source by anonymous FTP from ftp://ftp.vms.stacken.kth.se/GNU-VMS/Beta. The name of the package is EMACS-19_22-19940521.TAR-GZ. A WARNING is appropriate here. ftp.vms.stacken.kth.se is a VMS-based FTP server. If you're using Lynx V2.2 or later, you're OK. If you're using NCSA Mosaic, click here. If you decide to fetch this source kit, read the section starting with "Please, if you fetch these patches" below. You can't miss it. There's the beginning of a FAQ for this port of Emacs 19.22, and things that might go wrong. How to get patches for Emacs 19.22 To get the current patches to get Emacs to compile, link and run on VMS, you must send the following line to emacs-fileserv@e.kth.se: SEND EMACS-1922-TESTPATCHES To apply the patches, you need the original Emacs 19.22 source (you may get it from prep.ai.mit.edu:/pub/gnu or from ftp.stacken.kth.se:/pub/gnu), and the UNIX patch program for VMS, which you can get by adding this line to the message to emacs-fileserv@e.kth.se: SEND DIFF-PATCH In both cases. do not be upset if you have to wait one day to get the files, or if you get the last part first. The explanation is that the mail software at e.kth.se is set up to send large messages (larger than 32768 bytes) during the night. All packages on emacs-fileserv, maybe except for the last, are divided in parts of approximatelly 80 blocks, which is about 40KB. Please, if you fetch these patches, subscribe to the mailing list vms-emacs-testers@e.kth.se, simply by sending the following line to vms-emacs-testers-request@e.kth.se: SUBSCRIBE You will not be automagically added to the list. Instead, I will get a message, and will add you manually. I have set things up like this because I want to know who joins. Back to the GNUish VMS page.
