You need to set a system-wide logical DECW$LOGIN_BACKGROUND, translating to the name of a command procedure. If this logical exists, LOGINOUT does not display the Digital logo, but executes the command procedure as a detached process with the display set to the login display. What you want to do in the command file is up to you. You can run any X program that displays something on the root window.
