It's also available via anonymous FTP from gumby.cc.wmich.edu in the pub/vms/joblog directory. As in the past, I won't be posting it to comp.os.vms because of the complaints about posting sources. We *really* need comp.sources.vms. For those of you that don't get vmsnet.sources and don't have access to FTP, let me know and I'll e-mail copies out. It might be until January 28 before I can get around to mailing out some copies (except for those of you who requested copies of 1.1 and decided to wait for 1.2) because I'll be in Dallas January 20-25 for the USENIX conference. If any of you are going to be there, track me down and say hi. As for the stuff that's new in V1.2: 1) No more dropped reads on the TTY. This fixes a major problem in 1.1 that caused the I/O to get out of sync. The new method of I/O doesn't use mailboxes to detect I/O on the TTY and PTY and is also a major performance win. 2) PHOTO mode, which allows those of you out there that don't want to bother with setting up the stuff for secure logs (system logicals, system directories, daily skimming, etc.). With PHOTO mode turned on, JOBLOG will act just like PHOTO with the log files being created in the current directory. Instructions are in the README.TXT file. 3) Skimming actually works that way it was supposed to in 1.1 and actually adds a few things. The sender and recipient are now BOTH warned and the date the log file will be deleted if not retrieved is included in the warning messages. 4) JOBLOG will now work with SMP VAXen. I didn't run into this until a few days ago when we installed our 6000-520. See you in Dallas. -- Leonard Peirce Internet: peirce@gumby.cc.wmich.edu Western Michigan University peirce@gw.wmich.edu Academic Computing Services UUCP: ...!uunet!sharkey!wmichgw!peirce Kalamazoo, MI 49008 Phone: (616) 387-5469
