You will then need to change a switch hidden on the back of the thing. If memory serves (I don't have a VS3100 any more), there is a recessed switch next to the printer port. By using a pen to slide it up or down, you determine which device is used as the console, i.e., the monitor or the terminal hooked up to the printer port. On older VS3100s, there was no little hole to get to the switch---on those, you have to open the cabinet and, with some patience, slide the switch. I hope this helps.
