If you want a copy, it is located at ab20.larc.nasa.gov in incoming/vms. If you do not have access to anonymous FTP, mail me a message, and I will mail it. I started work on this DCL program a long time ago when I discovered that SZ did not allow wildcards. I would sometimes download very large batches of files, and the next-best alternative was Kermit (which allows wildcards). Z-Modem is roughly twice as fast as Kermit, so I sought a fix. All I could find was a simple little batch file called SZMOD. Unfortunately, SZMOD concatenated all of the filenames into one symbol and then sent the symbol. However, VMS doesn't like symbols greater than 256 characters in length, so SZMOD still couldn't sent long batches. I started work on SZ Shell to get around this problem, and I added a number of features in the course of development. I really knew nothing about DCL when I started, so it was a good learning experience. I released the first version at the beginning of this year. The current version offers: o Large batches of files can be sent by using a wildcard. o Optional ASK parameter for selective downloading o Optional DEL parameter to kill selected files o Optional LO parameter to log off at completion o Table of estimated transfer times o Optional logging of transfers o Documentation readable to an educated idiot (I hope) If you use SZ much, this program is very useful. If this sounds interesting, please download it, and let me know what you think of it. I am always looking for helpful suggestions and comments. After spending as much time as I did on it, I hate to let it just sit in my account. -- Sign below.
