IMHO the connection has proved LESS buggy than equivelant connections through a DZ11 on our 750. (Note the same 750 is being used in both cases.) We have modified the DIALDYN script that came with PCSA to make the connections for us, and found the whole process resonably reliable. We are currently beta testing this distribution with a number of employees who work from home and want transpearant access to the files on the VAX and on their PCs at work (via PERMIT). The proceedure we use is the following: VAX end (if dialup type access is desired) : 1. The default terminal type must be set to /DISCONNECT. We have a line in MODPARAMS.DAT with the following: TTY_DEFCHAR2=135170 ! 21002 hex. 2. Register the PC in the NCP database with the following: DEFINE NODE address NAME name INBOUND ENDNODE RECIEVE PASSWORD string PC end: We did a standard install of PCSA from diskette distribution (with the exception of removing the USERNAME - boy did version 3.1 byte us!) 1. For dialup, DEFINE the transmit password to the same thing as the RECEIVE password on the VAX. Before starting the network software: 1. Dial up the DS200 2. SET FLOW CONTROL DISABLED. 3. Set any FORWARD/BACKWARD/LOCAL SWITCHes to NONE. 4. Connect to your Vax and log in. 5. SET TERMINAL/PROTOCOL=DDCMP/SWITHC=DECNET/MANUAL 6. Exit SETHOST. 7. Start up the network. 8. The USE command, PCMAIL, etc should now work. Remember that LAD and LAT are ethernet only, use NDU (it works!) and CTERM instead. The beauty of this, of course, is that dialup lines can be used for either standard terminals or DDCMP - we won't have to buy a new set of modems and phone lines to provide this new service. Please pardon simple syntax errors or omissions - I'm doing this from memory. Well no one told our machines, so they work just fine. The config's for the DECserver, LATCP, and DECnet are shown below. The modem is setup to ignore modem signals. If you're running VMS 5.2 or 5.3[-1], the NODRIVER is buggy, and should be replaced with the 5.1 version. The symptons are loss of line sync. and lots of errors on the terminal device. I don't know if the problem is solved in 5.4.
