Quote du jour: `The best thing about Emacs : is the EDT emulation.' Try -X-edt-emulation-on, which should I confess that I am not an EDT user. Nevertheless, I have had many people tell me that the EDT emulation by JED is superior to that provided by Emacs. For example, JED's EDT emulation shows the familiar [EOB] indicator and JED can do highlighting on ordinary terminals---- emacs does neither of these. In fact, if you find any differences between EDT and JED's emulation of EDT (full screen mode), let me know and I will fix it in less than a day. I think that JED's emulation is as good as it is is because of this commitment. The latest version of JED is available from amy.tch.harvard.edu in pub/jed. Here is some more information about the editor: C, fortran*, tex*, text editing modes * Color Syntax Highlighting on ALL systems including dialup --- not just X-Windows * On non-color terminals, it can be configured to perform syntax highlighting using underline, bold, etc... * Highlight regions (all terminals that support highlighting) * An AUC-TeX package is available Runs under Unix, VMS, OS/2, and MSDOS (all versions) * XWindows (XJed) * DJGPP compiled version for 386/486 PCs support up to 256 Megs of Virtual Memory. This also is able to run in a Windows DOS Box. * Small. The executable is about 250K on Ultrix. For comparison, vi is about 200K Mouse support on Linux Console Emacs*, wordstar*, EDT* emulation C-like extension language called S-Lang.
