The Guardbot Wizard uses Java. Most recent Windows and Macintosh operating systems will have Java pre-installed. If you don't have Java installed, you won't be able to run the Guardbot Wizard. Try running Guardbot first, and if it doesn't work, click on the following link to download Java for your computer.

Go back to Guardbot home.
It's easy to use. This walkthrough will show you how:
1.
Click on Next to go on. At any time, you may click on "back" to return to the previous menu.
2.
You can either protect a single file or an entire folder of files (including subfolders).
If you choose to protect an entire folder, all the html files in the folder, including those in subfolders, will be protected by Guardbot (although you will be given the opportunity later to remove files from processing). Non-html files (such as image files) will be copied directly to the output folder. The end result will be that output directory contains exactly the same files, in exactly the same structure as your original folder, except that your html files will now be password protected. The Guardbot applet, "guardbot.jar" will also be added to the output folder - this is the Java program file which the web browser will use to let you view Guardbot protected pages.
3.
Click on browse to pick a file or folder. If you're protecting a single file, click on the file you want to protect. If you're protecting a folder, click on a file in the folder to select the entire folder.
4.
This menu shows the list of files which Guardbot will process (Html files will be protected, while other files will be copied, as described in part 2). You can remove files you do not want processed from this menu.
5.
Choose your password. You should choose a password as long and complicated as you can remember. The password is case sensitive, and can contain any character, including numbers.
6.
Choose the destination folder. This is where Guardbot will put your protected web pages.
7.
This is the menu where Guardbot does its real work. Click on "finish",
and Guardbot will start doing its stuff.
Clicking on options opens the options menu, where you can enable redirects
upon invalid password entry.
8.
All done. Guardbot lists the actions taken. Any errors will be listed here as well.
1. Numerical IP address and path (proxy workaround): If you're using Netscape and are behind a firewall, it may be necessary for you to use this option if you want to view Guardbot protected pages from behind the firewall. See FAQ 18 for more information.
You will need to know the IP address of your server, and the full path
to the location where you will place the guardbot.jar applet e.g. If the
guardbot.jar applet is located at http://www.guardbot.com/blah/guardbot.jar,
you will enter
216.92.92.175/blah (where the 4 numbers here represent the IP address
of your webserver).
2. Redirect if wrong password is entered: Check this box if you want
the user redirected to an error page if the wrong password is entered too
many times.
Check "relative to top-most folder" if the page to redirect to is stored
in the top most protected folder.
Earlier, we told Guardbot to put the protected pages in d:\protectedwebpage. So simply upload all the files in this folder to your web server (as you would have uploaded the files in the original folder), and your pages should now be Guardbot protected.
You can also test the protection locally by going to the folder d:\protectedwebpage and opening the html files in the folder with your browser.
And that's it.
