GNU Wget is a free utility for non-interactive download of files from the Web. It supports HTTP, HTTPS, and FTP protocols, as well as retrieval through HTTP proxies. It can follow links in HTML pages and create local versions of remote Web sites, fully recreating the directory structure of the original site. This is sometimes referred to as "recursive downloading." While doing that, Wget respects the Robot Exclusion Standard (/robots.txt). Wget can be instructed to convert the links in downloaded HTML files to the local files for offline viewing.
Recursive downloading also works with FTP, where Wget can retrieve a hierarchy of directories and files.
Files to be downloaded are specified using standard URI/URL (Uniform Resource Identifier/Locator) format. Supported schemes include FTP and HTTP (and, optionally, HTTPS).
Wget 1.10.2 for VMS (client or server)
/ftp/wget/wget-1_10_2b_vms/vms_notes.txt
Note that support for extended file names on ODS5 file systems depends on fairly recent C RTL features, as found in VMS V7.3-2 or VMS V7.3-1 with VMS731_ACRTL V3.0.
/ftp/wget/wget-1_10_2b_vms/wget-1_10_2b_vms.zip
The Zip archive for this kit was created using the Zip "-V" option to preserve the VMS file attributes, but the source files in this Zip archive should be usable on a non-VMS system. The VMS port notes mentioned above (and included in the kit) describe how to restore the original mixed-case and/or multi-dot file names in the kit which have been altered to accomodate the more limited VMS ODS2 file system where this work was done.
Wget 1.9.1 for VMS (client or server)
/ftp/wget/wget-1_9_1e_vms/vms_notes.txt
Note that support for extended file names on ODS5 file systems depends on fairly recent C RTL features, as found in VMS V7.3-2 or VMS V7.3-1 with VMS731_ACRTL V3.0.

--post-file=FILE command-line option appears to work as
intended with the restriction that the FILE specified must be in
Stream-LF format to accomodate some UNIX-oriented code. (HTTP 1.0
requires the length of the request to be known, and the method used to
determine the size of the file will fail for Variable-length format
files.)
