Article 168037 of comp.os.vms: re: OpenVMS 10K delta-time limit: additional info & tools now available The OpenVMS operating system has a documented delta-time limit of 10,000 days (10Kdays), and this limit may result in application run-time errors, and in certain OpenVMS components and shareable images, beginning on or near 19-MAY-1997. A Customer Letter on this topic has been mailed to OpenVMS customers. A copy of the Customer Letter, an updated Questions and Answers (Q&A) `10K FAQ', and a program to test for the application of the 10K patch have been posted at DIGITAL's www.openvms.digital.com website. (See below for pointers.) Patch kits are available for OpenVMS Alpha V6.1 through V7.0, and are (or shortly will be) available for OpenVMS VAX V5.5 through V7.0. Patches are not needed for V7.1 and later. See the 10K Q&A for further information on OpenVMS VAX prior to V5.5, and on OpenVMS Alpha prior to V6.1. Patch kits are available at DIGITAL's web site, and from DIGITAL's customer support center: ALPLIBR05_070, and VAXLIBR05_070. [The Q&A referenced below incorporates much of the feedback DIGITAL has received since the first version of the Q&A was made available; the Q&A below is an update to the version I recently posted to the newsgroups.] Customer Letter: http://www.openvms.digital.com/openvms/letter.html Q&A: http://www.openvms.digital.com/openvms/delta_qa.html Tool to check for patch: http://www.openvms.digital.com/openvms/show10K.com Current OpenVMS Alpha Patch: http://www.service.digital.com:80 - All_Databases&query_string=ALPLIBR05_070 Current OpenVMS VAX Patch: http://www.service.digital.com:80 - All_Databases&query_string=VAXLIBR05_070 -------------------------- pure personal opinion --------------------------- Hoff (Stephen) Hoffman OpenVMS Engineering h*ffman@xdelta.enet.dec.c*m headers and addresses munged to avoid automated spammers: junk-e-mail
