DECnet for Linux A project to provide DECnet phase IV connectivity for Linux [Image] Latest News 16th Nov 1998 dnprogs 1.00 beta 2 uploaded. This now includes a binary RPM and a Debian .deb file. 9th Nov 1998 dnprogs 1.00 beta1 available. This is is intended to replace the multiple tgz files and contains all the user-level utilities for the DECnet project (including FAL). It also includes a new startup shell script that will take all the pain out of setting up the ethernet hardware address. A SPARC port is almost ready (for those that care). Expect an announcement in a week or so. mail me if you want a pre-release to test. 27th Oct 1998 New dnapps.tgz with sethost bug fixes. 23rd Oct 1998 New Kernel patches for 2.1.125 & 2.0.35 (V0.0.0.7) including many bug fixes. 22nd Oct 1998 Updated dntools. What you get is a DECnet phase IV end-node capabilities on your Linux box. As it stands you can "set host" to an OpenVMS system, copy files to and from OpenVMS systems, run remote tasks and test the connections. You can also mount VMS directories as Linux Filesystems. VMS users can start terminal sessions on Linux or access to Linux files or foreign mounted filesystems as NCPFS, NFS, SMBFS thru the FAL daemon. You can also use X-Windows from OpenVMS to Linux if you build your X-Server with DECnet support. This makes Linux into an excellent (and cheap!) X-terminal for VMS as well as Unix now. Go here to find out how to set up X11. Frequently asked questions The FAQ is available in several formats: Multi-page HTML Single-Page HTML (suitable for downloading) SGML Send me your questions (preferably with answers!) What's Available? * A Kernel patch for Linux 2.0.35 and 2.1.125 that provides socket-level services. You'll need this before anything else will work. * File utilities dncopy, dntype, dndir, dndel, dnsubmit, dnprint and dntask. * X-Server binaries for Intel and Alpha machines. Where do I get this stuff? All the sources are available (under the GPL) as well as binaries (in rpm format) for Intel and Alpha architectures. * Go to our download page. What else will happen? Things we would like to provide are: * DAPFS: Allows mounting VMS directories as a Linux filesystem. The kernel 2.1.125 code now contains a pre-release version of this. You will need the special dnmount contained in the base utilities to mount VMS directories. * FAL daemon: This allows VMS users to access Linux files over DECnet and any Linux mounted filesystem (NFS, SMBFS, NCPFS, etc...). There is a pre-release version of FAL in the download page. * ...anything else we can think of.
