PrintServer access from PC clients?
The Question is:

I have 2 x PrintServer 17/600s connected to my Alpha Cluster via Decnet & DCPS.
I am also running pathworks and have found in the past that sharing these
printers will not allow my PC clients to print to them. To get around this
problem, I ave been forced
to install the Digital Print Monitor on each PC and print firectly from the PC
to the PrintServer.

I have recently installed a Windows 2000 server and would like to install the
PrintServer 17/600s on that server but so far as I know, there is not a
Digital print Monitor available for Windows 2000. Can you confirm this ?

The only option left to me may be to use a LPR TCP port on the 2000 server and
to configure LPD on the Alpha Cluster to allow the 2000 machine to print to
these printers but I have tried that and get a LPD communication error.

I have also tried using a RAW TCP port on the 2000 server (on port 170) but
that doesn;t work either.

Can you suggest a suitable solution ? I am running UCX Version 4.2

The Answer is:

As this does not appear to be an OpenVMS question, please contact the
Compaq Customer Support Center -- OpenVMS can and does access various
PrintServer printers via DCPS or LPR/LPD, and can share access to the
printers with other cooperating PrintServer clients and can serve these
printers to other clients via various protocols. The OpenVMS Wizard is
not particularly in a position to discuss PrintServer clients for other
platforms, nor printing problems with PrintServer printers -- the OpenVMS
Wizard is a Wizard on OpenVMS and is not particularly known as a Wizard
in other areas. Again, please contact the Compaq Customer Support Center.
