  The terse INITIODB error dept
 The Question is:

While attempting to boot a scci system disk device... getting the error
message: 0%UBUTUIDB-F There is no ADP for boot device? This occurs after the
boot block appears to have been accessed and the VMS 6.2 operating system
 banner has displayed. What can
I do to boot the system?

 The Answer is :

Assuming the console SRM environment variable BUS_PROBE_ALGORITHM is set
appropriately for local requirements and the OS_TYPE variable is set to
OpenVMS and the console firmware is of a sufficiently recent vintage, it
would appear that your (unspecified) system and storage hardware
configuration is apparently not supported by the OpenVMS Alpha release
  in use.

You will want to contact the support center, and particularly elaborate
on what has occured since this configuration last worked as expected.
This OpenVMS release is very old, and thus the OpenVMS Wizard will
assume this is an existing and not a newly-installed configuration.
The support center will also expect additional details of the INITIODB
message display, as there are often IOSB and R0 status values present.

OpenVMS releases V6.2 and later will generally tolerate having the SRM
BUS_PROBE_ALGORITHM set to either OLD or NEW, with NEW generally being
prefered, though V6.2 can require OLD on certain platforms, and
specifically the Alphastation 600 series. Releases prior to V6.2
require BUS_PROBE_ALGORITHM be set to OLD.

If you alter BUS_PROBE_ALGORITHM, remember to issue the INIT command.
