We just got in VMS 5.2, I have not yet installed it, but here's the list of
features:

                         VAX/VMS 5.2 New Features Overview

VMS 5.2 can be installed "cold" on a new system, or, upgrades may
be done to VMS Version 5.1 or higher.

         New DCL Commands:

ANALYZE/AUDIT Extracts selective records from the
                                       system security audit journal.

SET DISPLAY Allows creation and modification of
                                       workstation display devices.

SHOW DISPLAY Displays the characteristics of a
                                       display device.

         New qualifiers:

         For DISMOUNT:

         /OVERRIDE=CHECKS Marks a Files-11 volume for
dismounting even if files are open
                                       on the volume.

         LOGIN Procedure qualifiers:

/NEW_PASSWORD Changes your password when you log
                                       in.

         SET FILE qualifiers:

/SEMANTICS Creates or changes a semantics tag.

         /NOSEMANTICS Removes a semantics tag.

SHOW AUDIT Qualifiers: Displays security auditing
                                       characteristics in effect on the
                                       system.

         SHOW SYSTEM qualifiers:

/CLUSTER Displays all processes on the node
or nodes in a VAXcluster. The
                                       qualifier /NODE without a value
displays all processes on the local
                                       node.

         SHOW USERS qualifiers:

/BATCH Displays all batch users in the
                                       system.

/CLUSTER Displays all users on all nodes in a
                                       VAXcluster.

         /FULL Displays complete information,
                                       rather than the default summary,
                                       about each process.

/INTERACTIVE Displays all interactive users in
                                       the system.

/NETWORK Displays all network users in the
                                       system.

/NODE Displays all users on the specified
node or nodes in a VAXcluster. The
                                       qualifier /NODE without a value
displays all users on the local
                                       node.

/SUBPROCESS Displays all subprocess users in the
                                       system.

         New Lexical Function:

F$CONTEXT Formats data for use with the
                                       SYS$PROCESS_SCAN service. Sets up
selection criteria for use with the
                                       F$PID function.

         New Lexical Function Item Codes:

         F$FILE_ATTRIBUTES Return information about the
                                       following: RMS journaling, file
                                       system options, stored semantics.

System Management, Operations and Programming features include:

         o Enhanced security

         o Improvements to SYSGEN

         o Improvements in SYSMAN

o Improvements in the LMF (License Management Facility) V5.2
requires that you have a VAXcluster PAK or SUP installed.

         o Improvements to NETCONFIG.COM

o New Disk and Tape device support

         o Improvements to VMS DECwindows

o Control/T issued during a backup procedure gives you an
            additional two lines of information.

o Backup is much faster but requires the use of an account named
BACKUP. (Due to setting certain UAF parameters in order to use
            it.)

o The BUFFER_COUNT qualifier is now obsolete. You can use it in
commands, but it will have no effect. DEC recommends that you
            remove it.

o Backup CRC checking is improved.

o The DEBUGGER now has the following new or enhanced commands:
CONNECT, DEFINE/PROCESS_GROUP, DISPLAY, DO, EXIT, QUIT, SET
MODE [NO]INTERRUPT, SET PROCESS, SHOW PROCESS, SET
            PROMPT/[NO]SUFFIX, SET BREAK/ACTIVATING,/TERMINATING, CANCEL
            BREAK/ACTIVATING,/TERMINATING,SET TRACE/ACTIVATING,/TERMINATING
            CANCEL TRACE/ACTIVATING,/TERMINATING

o Processes are now visible cluster-wide, therefore several
features have been added to some system services.

o New services are: $DEVICE_SCAN, which scans across the system
for devices, and $PROCESS_SCAN, which scans across the system
            or cluster for processes.

o VMSINSTAL now provides callbacks, if you are asked to correct
something, you no longer have to start over.

         Odds and Ends:

o DECwindows DECterm now provides a VT300 series terminal
            emulator.

o Successful completion of a batch job or print job updates a
            global symbol called $ENTRY.

o All lines in command procedures MUST have a "$" sign, unless
            they are data lines.

o Some EDT problems were corrected, such as renaming .TMP files.

o The performance of SORT/MERGE has been improved by 26% and
            enhancements have been added.

o PIDs must now be specified in full...for instance, to stop the
process labeled "46400136" you used to be able to say,
"STOP/ID=136", now you must say, "STOP/ID=46400136" (Drat!)

o The OLDSITE mechanism in AUTOGEN is obsolete.

o The VMS memory management SWAP file allocation has been changed
            significantly.

o Additional privs are required to execute STABACKIT.COM, user
must have BYPASS, CMKRNL, CMEXEC, LOG_IO, SYSNAM, VOLPRO, and
            OPER.

o There is a new LAT Dynamic Service Rating Algorithm:

At every MULTICAST timer tick, the routine LTDRIVER calculates
a new LAT service rating. The MULTICAST timer is usually set
to 60 seconds. The new algorithm calculates the LAT rating
using scaled integer arithmetic with the following formula:

                  20 * (IJOBLIM-IJOBCNT) min(235, CPU_RATING) * 100
         RATING= ------------------------ + ----------------------------
                         IJOBLIM (100 + LOAD_AVERAGE)

o In order to start LAT on the system you MUST use LAT 5.2.

This is just a sample list, more details are available in the "VMS
Version 5.2 New Features Manual", and the "Release Notes."
