News Software for VMS
---------------------

ANU-News - Not just a news reader, but a full-blown news system for VMS,
including both an NNTP client and server. Available by anonymous
FTP from kuhub.cc.ukans.edu. VMS style user interface. For more
information, see newsgroup news.software.anu-news, or the mailing
list ANU-NEWS at VM1.NoDak.EDU for more information. (Alpha and
VAX) This is the only NNTP Server for VMS (other than Mark
            Berryman's way-cool Mumps-based NNTP Server).

NEWSRDR - A news reader (NNTP client). Supports threading using the
References: header (or via Subject: header, whichever you
prefer). Requires access to a system running an NNTP server.
Available by anonymous FTP from public.tgv.com in directory
[.MADISON.NEWSRDR], and from ftp.spc.edu (file name
            [.MACRO32.SAVESETS]NEWSRDR.ZIP). It is also available
through e-mail distribution from FILESERV@WKUVX1 on BITNET
            and FILESERV@WKUVX1.WKU.EDU (send a one-line e-mail message
with the text "HELP" in the message body for more
information). Contact Matt Madison (madison@tgv.com) for
            more information. (Alpha and VAX)

VNEWS - Another NNTP client. Available by anonymous FTP from arizona.edu
in directory [SOFTWARE.VMS.VNEWS].	UNIX style user interface.
Contact Joel Snyder (jms@arizona.edu) for more information.
            (Alpha and VAX)

VMS NEWS - Yet another NNTP client. Available by anonymous FTP from
	    ftp.rz.uni-ulm.de, directory /pub/VMS/communications, and on
ftp.spc.edu, directory [.ucx]. Contact Bernd Onasch
            (bernd@rzsun2.rz.uni-karlsruhe.de or
            Onasch@askdonald.ask.uni-karlsruhe.de) for more information.
Apparently a threaded newsreader (follows References: lines).
            (VAX only (?))

DXRN/MXRN - DECwindows and Motif implementations of xrn, an X Windows based
NNTP client. Available by anonymous FTP from decuac.dec.com,
	    file /pub/DEC/dxrn.share. Contact Rick Murphy
(murphy@burfle.dco.dec.com) for more information. (VAX only (?))

BULLETIN - Includes a USENET news reading mode. Send mail to
BULLETIN@ORYANA.PFC.MIT.EDU with the word "INFO" in the message
body for details on what BULLETIN is and how to get it.

FNEWS - Basically a mixture of NEWSRDR and ANU-NEWS, providing a
somewhat different full-screen interface and quick response to
all newsgroups. It can be found in the pub/fnews/vms directory
on grunt.marc.cri.nz. Contact Chrisp@grace.cri.nz for more
	    information. (VAX only (?))

TIN - There's a TIN port available from hobbes.cc.duq.edu in the
[ANONYMOUS.TIN] directory, and also on tango.cchs.su.edu.au in
            [FTP.VMS.TIN]. (Alpha and VAX)

DNEWS - "Dynamic" NNTP Server, currently in beta test. Available on
ftp.std.com in ftp/vendors/emagic/dnews. (Alpha and VAX)

SLRN - Easy to use newsreader, with referenced-based threading, color
thread lines, multiple windows, support for multiple news servers.
Written by John Davis, davis@space.mit.edu, and ported to VMS by
            Andrew.Greer@vuw.ac.nz. Available from space.mit.edu in
pub/davis/slrn. (Alpha and VAX) Currently in beta test.

Many of these programs are also available from DECUS, either from the DECUS
Library or on recent VAX SIG tapes.
