However, DECspell does t7 not recognize these as dictionaries unless you do the o following:e2 o When transferring a dictionary from VMS, enter 9 DICTIONARY in the Handling field on the Creating From VMS File form. 8 If you have transferred the dictionary without doing 9 this, enter the CD option from the File Cabinet menu, h/ and convert the document type to DICTIONARY.v9 o When mailing dictionaries from ALL-IN-1, mail them as 7 attachments. For example: y $ SPELL/FORMAT DICNAME.LGP 8 Note that if you combine /FORMAT with other qualifiers, you must specify /FORMAT first.9 Words are arranged in columns across the page. Each new a9 initial letter begins a new paragraph. If you want each ,8 word to be positioned on a new line, use the /NOPACKED qualifier. For example: & $ SPELL/FORMAT/NOPACKED DICNAME.LGP 8 If you want to see a list of duplicate words that are 0 removed, use the /LOG qualifier. For example: ! $ SPELL/FORMAT/LOG DICNAME.LGP How DECspell Defines a Word w 8 DECspell considers any set of alphanumeric characters, 0 separated by spaces, punctuation marks or line 3 boundaries, to be a word. Words may also contain R3 certain other special characters, such as hyphen, 2 period, apostrophe, ampersand (&) or dollar ($). 9 However, if the document is in RUNOFF format, DECspell i0 does not consider RUNOFF commands to be words. 7 Words are verified only if they contain an alphabetic | character.
Hyphenation 7 If a word contains a hyphen, DECspell will check each -1 part of the word. If either part is not in the -7 dictionary, the word will be highlighted as an error. i Capitalization 8 If you add a word to your personal dictionary that has 9 an initial capital, for example David, the same word in |, lowercase will be highlighted as an error. 8 If you add a word all in uppercase, for example JANE, 7 the same word with only an initial capital or all in , lowercase will be highlighted as an error. 6 However, if you add a word that is all in lowercase, 2 for example jones, the same word with an initial 3 capital or all in uppercase is passed as correct. t DCL Command Qualifiers 2 Ignore this page if you are using DECspell from ALL-IN-1. 3 Qualifiers alter the way DECspell works. You use e7 them when starting DECspell. You can abbreviate any u, qualifier and use more than one at a time. /OUTPUT 3 Gives the corrected document a new name. If this 7 qualifier is not used the corrected document will be t7 stored under its original name with a higher version l number. For example: & $ SPELL/OUTPUT=NEWNAME.TXT NAME.TXT /NOPERSONAL_DICTIONARY , Prevents your default personal dictionary 8 (PERSONAL.LGP) being used for checking. For example: $ SPELL/NOPERS NAME.TXT /PERSONAL_DICTIONARY 7 Specifies a different current personal dictionary to 9 that used during the previous spelling check (that is, 7 the dictionary to which words will be added when you -8 use the ADD option on the DECspell Command Menu). For
example: $ SPELL/PERS=DICT1 NAME.TXT /DICTIONARY 6 Specifies personal dictionaries for checking, other 7 than your default personal dictionary. For example: & $ SPELL/DICT=(DICT1,DICT2) NAME.TXT /KEYPAD 8 Specifies an alternative editor layout to the default 5 WPS keypad layout. You can specify WPS or EDT. For s example: $ SPELL/KEYPAD=EDT NAME.TXT /MASTER_DICTIONARY 5 Specifies an alternative master dictionary to your e3 default master dictionary. You can choose either 3 AMERICAN or BRITISH. The default depends on your a7 installation. (NOTE: You can only use this qualifier r9 if the system you are using has both dictionaries.) For I example: $ SPELL/MAST=BRITISH NAME.TXT /DX 9 Displays the index of your documents created on a word -6 processor and transferred by DX. You can select the ! required document for checking. : (Note: If you combine /DX with other qualifiers, you must% specify /DX first.) For example: T $ SPELL/DX /RUNOFF 9 Indicates that the document is a RUNOFF document, if it 8 does not already have a .RN% file type. DECspell then 2 by-passes the RUNOFF commands when checking the document. For example: $ SPELL/RUNOFF NAME.TXT Helpful Hints 4 o You are encouraged to add words to your personal 8 dictionaries whenever you check a document. When you 0 first use DECspell many of your specialized 7 words will be highlighted as errors and so it will / take longer to check documents. As you add r9 specialized words to your personal dictionaries fewer ( words will be highlighted as errors. 8 o DECspell compiles corrections lists from the master 9 dictionary, any personal dictionaries being used and c( any words you IGNORE in the session. . o Remember that GLOBAL REPLACE replaces the 8 unrecognized word throughout the document. However, 9 if you finish using DECspell before you have checked 9 the whole document, GLOBAL REPLACE replaces the word e- only as far as the document has reached. l 7 o Be careful not to add real spelling errors to your g3 personal dictionaries. (NOTE: You can edit the dictionary to remove them.) h 9 o Remember that if you finish using DECspell before you p8 have checked the whole document, words you selected 9 to PASS or IGNORE will be highlighted as errors when % you return to check the document. - 9 o You cannot use the DICTIONARY option unless you have e8 chosen to use more than one dictionary for checking. 9 o Remember you cannot go back through a document while using DECspell. c Further Information 3 For more information on the VMS operating system, o$ refer to the VAX/VMS document set. 4 For more information on DECspell, refer to the VAX ) DECspell System and Installation Guide. 8 The information in this document is subject to change 2 without notice and should not be construed as a 8 commitment by Digital Equipment Corporation.
