Subject: Wget for VMS: a cheap and nasty port for the curious or
desperate.

   If you're desperate for a good time, I have done a very quick port of
Wget to VMS. For those who lack a Sun software support contract, Wget
is a GNU free network utility to retrieve files from the World Wide Web
using HTTP and FTP.

   This VMS port is not well tested. I built it using Alpha VMS V7.2,
DEC C V6.0-001, and TCPIP V5.0. I assume that any VMS pre-V7.0 will not
have the required run-time library support, but you could get lucky.

   The kit (including all original and modified source, and Alpha
objects and executable) is available at:

      ftp://ftp.antinode.org/wget/vms_notes.txt
      ftp://ftp.antinode.org/wget/wget-1_5_3_vms.zip

  Experimenters are encouraged to test it on Web and FTP servers other
than mine, if any. Particular caution should be used with "-r"
(recursive), as, given a properly structured target Web site, Wget can
attempt to suck down most of the Web.
